Overview:

Our client is a dynamic, fast-growing law firm providing high-level Corporate/Commercial Advisory, Compliance, Finance, Data Protection, and Regulatory Risk Management services to clients across multiple industries. As an NDPC-licensed Data Protection Compliance Organization (DPCO), we help organisations navigate complex data privacy requirements and achieve full NDPA, NDPR, GDPR, and global compliance.

Role Purpose:

We are seeking a highly experienced Corporate/Commercial Lawyer & Data Protection who will join our DPCO Team and oversee compliance, regulatory, and finance-related advisory services. The ideal candidate is a seasoned lawyer with strong corporate/commercial experience, deep regulatory compliance expertise, and demonstrable knowledge of finance, fintech, and financial services regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead NDPA-compliant DPCO operations and engagements.
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Deliver Data Protection Audits, Certifications, Training, and Compliance Assessments.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review high-value commercial contracts.
  • Provide compliance advisory across financial services and fintech.
  • Interpret and apply banking operations and CBN regulatory requirements.
  • Support clients with investment, lending, and risk-management frameworks.
  • Conduct compliance audits, internal policy reviews, and regulatory readiness assessments.
  • Ensure alignment with finance-related regulations (CBN, SEC, NDIC, etc.)
  • Advise on company structure, business transactions, and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct legal due diligence on corporate, financial, and investment transactions.
  • Manage sector-specific licensing and regulatory approvals, such as the Expatriate Quota and Business Permit.
  • Develop and implement Data Governance & Privacy Frameworks.
  • Advise clients on NDPA, NDPR, GDPR, ISO 27001, and global privacy standards excellence.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between the Corporate/Commercial, Compliance, and DPCO units.
  • Lead Legal Research, Drafting, Quality Assurance, and Editorial teams.
  • Oversee retainer clients and deliver high-quality advisory support.
  • Mentor junior lawyers and supervise team output.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years post-call experience in corporate/commercial law.
  • Education: LL.B. & B.L. required.
  • LL.M. or additional certifications in corporate/compliance are an added advantage.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or compliance roles required.
  • Certification in Data Protection (NDPR, GDPR, ISO 27001, etc.) is a strong advantage.

  • Finance & Compliance Knowledge: Financial regulatory compliance, Understanding of banking operations, fintech, lending, and risk controls.  Ability to advise finance-driven businesses, and  Interest in finance and the financial ecosystem.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills: Team leadership and delegation, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Communication & Stakeholder Management, Ability to simplify complex rules for client understanding, and Communication & Stakeholder Management.
